Schoolmarm

This picture is me at about twelve years old with my Grand / Mother who raised me she died December 31 2011.She was 94 years old she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother , greatgrandmother, and friend we miss her so very much. She was my teacher and best friend.I  am a mother of four, three grown and we have a twelve year old daughter  that I have been homeschooling . My daughter is high functioning Autistic Aspergers. Public school was not right for her. So I decided to home school at first I was scared and overwhelmed . I tried to make home like school but soon I learned. I was going about it all wrong .Homeschooling Can be a wonderful adventure or a daily drudgery .We tried Time4Learning great until you look at Science and History. Looks like a copied book. Switched On Schoolhouse was so bland my daughter could not stand that. I began a search online and finally decided I would create my own anyone can do this. I was raised by my Grandmother Katheryn. She taught me how to cook ,follow a recipe measure ingredients. Sewing was just as hands on we measured and made our own patterns using newspaper . Quilting really turned on the creative mind we used old clothing to make quilt pieces.Recycling at its best. I remember learning by watching and doing .My daughter is the same way and technology has made it easier than ever. Today if you want to learn how to do anything all you have to do is look it up on the Internet. That brings me back to designing my own curriculum. Unit Study seems to work best for those with Autism.Studying whatever is their current obsession when possible.YouTube is a gold mine of information just use a little imagination and Viola . Remember to use your imagination Dream allow yourself to think outside the box. You do not need to teach your child what they would learn in public school. Check out what your state requirements are and then enjoy learning alongside your child .
